All over the country, all sorts of little schemes are being hatched to pull off the ultimate surprise. And it’s not just men doing the scheming these days – plenty of women ignore the lack of a leap year and take the initiative!
So how to make it a really memorable event? We asked around and came up with a few essentials for one of life’s truly big moments.
From the people we talked to, the main thing is to plan the moment. Spontaneity is exciting, but for a proposal you’ll always remember, putting in a little thought goes a long way. It seems the main things to consider are location, a theme and most important of all – the element of surprise!
We found that preferences for location really varied, but the favourite was planning a romantic evening at a special restaurant. A friend of ours actually arranged everything with their beloved Indian restaurant, complete with authentic Indian musicians and the engagement ring delivered to the table on a silver platter!
But for those who prefer something truly intimate, a Spring proposal is hard to beat. Imagine the scene – a mild evening in early April. Your loved one is due home soon. All the way down the path to the front door, you’ve placed candles and rose petals. A luxurious bubble bath is waiting for her, followed by champagne, a home-cooked meal and then the special moment. Sometimes the simple things are the best.
If you want to go the whole hog on location, theme and making a huge spectacle of yourself, this one is hard to beat. We know of a young couple who are huge comic book fans (yes, very Big Bang Theory!). They decided to go to a big annual comic book convention last year in New York. What he didn’t know was what she had in mind! In the middle of thousands of people in the main hall, dressed as Harley Quinn, she went down on one knee to him, dressed as The Joker. Cue classic American whooping and clapping all round! Only for the brave!
We’ve also been part of these special moments too. It’s a lovely part of what we do, and often quite a departure from our usual little tiny casts. One couple asked us to preserve their wedding flowers as part of a set of casts. We even cast them holding hands, complete with wedding rings!
All in all, it’s about making special moments to remember. And as time goes by, they get even more special!
